Turning a new leaf: Dos Pinos launches dairy, nectars & oatmeal in Tetra Pak Slim leaf cartons

The Tetra Brik Aseptic 200 Slim Leaf carton packs.

Dos Pinos in Costa Rica has partnered with Tetra Pak to launch its dairy, nectars and oatmeal brands in Tetra Brik Aseptic 200 Slim Leaf carton packs.

It is the first company in the American continent to launch its products in the aseptic carton. The package has already been launched by Tetra Pak customers in Japan, Saudi Arabia and Russia.

Leaf shaped panels

The packs, which have a centralized straw hole, carry leaf shaped panels to highlight messages and promote further design, for added shelf appeal.

Gonzalo Chaves, CEO, Dos Pinos, said consumers are constantly looking for new experiences, novelty and fun in everyday products, and it partnered with Tetra Pak to respond to this need.

"For several years, Dos Pinos and Tetra Pak have been working hand in hand to promote recycling in Costa Rica,” added Chaves.

The containers are recyclable and are made of paper from certified renewable sources.”

Tetra Pak is supporting its customers to upgrade their lines with the ReFit your lines, ReShape your future program.

The shift to Tetra Brik Aseptic 200 Slim Leaf at Dos Pinos was completed within eight days, offering faster time to market and lower investment costs compared to setting up a packaging line.

Manuel Calderon, MD, Tetra Pak Central America and Caribbean, told DairyReporter, Dos Pinos is one of the main local brands in the region, and historically innovative when it comes to new formats and options for the consumer.

"Rather than a challenge, Tetra Pak sees opportunity in the American continent, as well as the Middle East and Asia, to provide packaging for existing small to medium sized customers who are not yet ready to invest in new lines," he said.

"The ReFit your lines, ReShape your future programme bridges a gap for these customers, offering them the newest and most innovative Tetra Brik Aseptic portion packages, such as the Tetra Brik Aseptic 200 Slim Leaf used by the Costa Rican dairy company Dos Pinos) with much lower investment costs compared to setting up a new packaging line."

Leaf it alone

This “new” format is no different for consumers to handle, drink from or dispose of than the Brick that it replaced. However the machine manufacturer has excluded all other packaging suppliers. Who is the beneficiary from this change?
