Ocean Spray expresses ‘great sadness’ over Nevada death

Ocean Spray has confirmed to BeverageDaily.com that an employee died following a fatal accident at a fruit juice distribution center in Nevada, United States.

The company sent us a statement that read: "It is with great sadness we confirm that a fatal accident involving an Ocean Spray employee occurred Saturday, July 26 at the Black Mountain Distribution Center in Henderson, Nevada.”

“Black Mountain is a distribution center for Ocean Spray products manufactured at its nearby facility,”​ it added; Ocean Spray also has a juice filling facility in Henderson.

The statement said that the Nevada branch of the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is currently examining the accident scene. 

'Ocean Spray will assist the family in any way possible'

“Ocean Spray has contacted the family and will assist the family in any way possible. We are unable to confirm any additional details at this time, given that the investigation is ongoing and out of respect for the privacy of Ocean Spray's employees and their families,”​ the company said.

According to the Associated Press​ on Tuesday, Las Vegas man Harry Lentz died in hospital last Saturday after injuries suffered after he fell through a skylight at the distribution center.

Agricultural co-operative Ocean Spray brings together cranberry and grapefruit growers and reported sales of $2.2bn in 2013 – products include fruit juices, fruit snacks and cranberry sauce.
