Technology for wastewater treatment; water management in breweries; and CIP efficiency through correct cleaning head selection are some of the topics covered by the VDMA Food Process Machinery and Packaging Machinery Association at drinktec 2017.

In total, 34 lectures will be presented at the water-technology@drinktec symposium featuring VDMA’s suppliers and vendors.

Economic use of water

"It's a case of showing the exhibitors' expertise when it comes to water as a raw material and process component in the beverage industry", said Richard Clemens, MD, VDMA.

"The sessions address the question as to how to make good, economic use of water. We are sure this program will be able to introduce numerous future-oriented technologies to trade visitors from the beverage and liquid food industry."

The topics cover issues involved in water treatment, wastewater treatment, process optimization and quality control for process and product water.

Technical solutions, practical examples and concepts for restructuring the cleaning processes as well as saving water cover the broad range of interests shown by drinktec visitors.

Examples include reverse osmosis, water treatment methods with mineral adsorbents for low-cost removal of semimetals and heavy metals from drinking water and reducing water consumption rates by integrating recuperation technologies in water systems, which is promising for saving water in emerging countries with extreme water shortages.

Scientific projects

In addition to lectures by technology providers, the symposium features scientific projects: benchmarking to save water in the beverage industry, simulation methods for process optimization in the fruit juice industry and smart, self-learning cleaning systems.

Visitors at the water-technology@drinktec will also find strategic support in the key-note lecture on "Water is a business issue – Introduction of the Water Risk Montizer".

This lecture will be held on Monday, September 11 and Thursday, September 14 at 3.30pm.
