Rexam today began building a new $190m plant in Switzerland that will ultimately incorporate three lines for the company's specialty Slim and Sleek beverage cans.

The wall-to-wall site is designed to minimize traffice to and from it and optimize logistic costs accordingly - the first line will come on stream in 2015 and the plant will ultimately have a capacity of 2.2bn cans per year.

Graham Chipchase, Rexam CEO said of the £115m build: "This...facility reflects our ambition as a business as we continually strive to innovate and provide our customers with cost-effective and sustainable can packaging solutions.”
