Sidel to make 10% job cuts in company restructure
Sidel will move its headquarters from Zug, Switzerland, to Parma, Italy, next year, axing 10% of its workforce, affecting 360 employees.

The company says it will introduce a more streamlined structure for its PET packaging lines and filling machines with centralised reporting lines and fewer management levels.

Cost savings will be reinvested back into the company

The changes will generate cost savings that will be reinvested back into developing technology.

Mart Tiismann, CEO, Sidel told FoodProductionDaily, Parma is where Sidel has a Centre of Excellence for complete lines and filling.

The move reflects Sidel’s commitment to complete line solutions, for which the Parma site has become a centre of excellence in addition to filling technologies, as well as the city’s strong food and beverage traditions,” he said.

In discussions with employee representatives

The transfer will take place during the course of 2016, with a confirmation date to be announced in due course.”

Sidel is currently in discussions with employee representatives to work through the planned changes.

Plans are in place to ensure, where feasible, employees will be re-deployed into new roles and that, in any case, those affected are treated fairly.

The changes mean there will be fewer roles worldwide, with an overall reduction of about 10% across Sidel’s global business,” added a company spokesman.

Overall, Sidel will cut 360 roles across its global business (715 roles will be removed with up to 355 new roles created).

As part of the new organisational structure, Sidel will be a slimmer and simpler organisation with fewer management levels. This flatter organisation affects all management levels. Sidel is currently in talks with employees and relevant representatives and no further details on affected roles can be given at this stage.”

He said the announced changes only affect Sidel. They are part of Sidel’s long-term journey to exclusively focus on PET, to remain competitive and sustainable for the years ahead.

The business will respond to customer requirements faster, more efficiently with higher quality,” he said.

Sidel will introduce a new streamlined structure that will deliver more expertise, at the right time, to the right place. Sidel will have a centralised global approach to the service it provides, moving to a functional organisation with dedicated experts supporting from the top to the bottom of Sidel.”
