Elopak has partnered with Nippon Paper Industries to launch its Pure-Pak carton in Japan.

The company plans to launch its Pure-Pak Classic with curve feature and Pure-Pak Sense cartons, which already serve the dairy, soft drinks and functional drinks in Europe.

50th anniversary

Yasuhito Obayashi, associate director, Paper-Pak division, Nippon Paper Industries, told BeverageDaily, it will also apply closures to the cartons for consumer convenience.

We plan to introduce the filling machine UP-F07 and UP-F14 manufactured by Shikoku Kakoki, which enables operations for both cartons and conventional cartons to be undertaken with a single machine, and to which a variety of closures can be attached,” he said.

This will make it possible to fill both value-added products (e.g. Pure-Pak Sense + closures to be attached) and standard products (e.g. NP-PAK) on the same filling machine line.

Customers will be able to expand the product lineup while controlling the risk of investment in producing new products.”

Demand for improved functionality

Nippon Paper Industries, headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, has produced and sold gable-top cartons under the NP-PAK brand since 1965 and celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.

Obayashi added the firm has developed its sales strategy based on a three-pillar system composed of cartons, filling machines, and maintenance, based on its experience selling gable-top liquid packaging cartons in Japan.

The Pure-Pak design features and shapes, as well as the introduction of closures will further strengthen Nippon Paper Industries position in the market by meeting increasing consumer demands for improved functionality,” he said.

Pure-Pak Curve has a curved panel which can be used for product features, brand differentiation and on-pack-promotions for stand out shelf appeal.

Pure-Pak Sense is a contemporary pack with improved appearance and functionality.

The carton is called Pure-Pak Sense because ‘its development and design has been focused on appealing to our senses’.

The carton looks and feels different with an embossed "first touch" zone near the gable top on each side. It comes with "easy to fold" lines to fold to squeeze out more residual content from the pack.
