Budweiser celebrates its 12 US breweries with state names on packaging

Each state (California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas and Virginia) is offering custom packaging, with the ‘Budweiser’ name on packaging being replaced by the state name.

The ‘king of beers’ nickname has also been swapped with each state’s individual motto; ‘Anheuser-Busch Inc’ is replaced with the state’s nickname; and the center medallion ‘AB’ monogram instead shows that state initials.

Budweiser has been brewed across the US since 1876 and Anheuser-Busch says the new state packaging, which launched last week and will be available through the end of September, pays tribute to the 12 US breweries ‘that relentlessly produce America’s No. 1 full-flavored classic lager’​ (Budweiser is brewed in the 11 above states with two breweries in California).

Budweiser is one of the most popular beer brands across the US and available across 80 markets worldwide, but the new packaging seeks to emphasize a local connection with consumers in each of the 11 states. 

Ricardo Marques, vice president, Budweiser, said: “The new state bottles and cans celebrate the homes of our breweries and the communities that support them.”​

With a further emphasis on its local breweries, Budweiser is also hosting brewery open houses, radio spots, and a ‘Budland’ festival with local LA music artists, fashion and food.

The website www.budbrewedlocally.com​ also directs consumers to their nearest brewery and event, with most breweries also offering brewery tours.
