Coca-Cola European Partners is investing £2.3m ($2.9m) in Scottish operations this year, helping to save water at its East Kilbride plant.

The £2.3m injection at the site has funded a new water treatment plant, which provides a more efficient water recovery system from the site’s four manufacturing lines. Coca-Cola says this will save an estimated nine million liters of water a year.

Coca-Cola has invested £56m ($70m) across its six manufacturing sites in Great Britain this year.

The East Kilbride site, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014, employs more than 150 people and produces 16m cases of product annually. It is the only Coca-Cola European Partners site that produces the Appletiser brand.

The factory welcomed Linda Fabiani MSP and Dr Lisa Cameron MP last week to mark the investment.
